My hubby had
to learn that rice can be eaten at every meal. And it is absolutely
horrifying to my family to lather butter and/or sugar on it
.the
appropriate way to eat rice is to sprinkle a little shoyu or furikake on
top! ~Carolyn |

One night my entire
(Japanese/Chinese) family went out to eat at L & L's. After all 7of us
lined up to place our order (since as we all know...daddy always pays no
matter how old the kids get), my (haole) husband was the last one up.
However, before he could even say a word, the young cashier turned to my
father with a confused look on her face and asked, "Is he with you?!" ~

When we planned
our first thanksgiving dinner, it was quite an eye opener. Because we
were hosting dinner at our house, he had made plans to prepare the
entire spread from the appetizers to main course to dessert. When I told
him that it was going to be a potluck, he went into shock. After much
convincing that it is common for friends and family to do that here, he
finally gave in and agreed to let it flow that way. Now, every get
together is a potluck! ~ Nani |
