When Michi
and I got married both of our families had a fit, and they all said it
won't last a year. Hers a traditional old country Japanese, and mine,
old New England Yankees that have been in the same town since 1636 and
the same house since 1667. You can imagine what we went through.
However, if you are willing to compromise a little, and communicate a
lot it can be a wonderful life. On May 9th, 2005 we will celebrate our
50th anniversary. We have two sons and two daughters, three
are here in Hawaii and one (a son) in Calif.. We have four
granddaughters here and two great grandchildren all on Oahu. ~ Dutch and

My Japanese wife
and I met on a city bus in Boise, Idaho. She was an exchange student
assigned to a family in Seattle, Washington. When she got off the plane, the
family told her they were moving to Nampa, Idaho. They put her in a
Christian High School then on to Northwest Nazarene College. She soon moved
to Boise State University. I couldn't believe that the Medical School
wouldn't let me in with only a strong business background. I attended Boise
State to bone up on science. We shared the same bus route. I spent 3 years
in Japan, in the USAF so I could speak a little Japanese. Once we started
talking we never stopped. We were married 2 years later and celebrate our
14th anniversary this August. Mixed marriages are somewhat more common in
Boise now, but not like most cities. ~Vern McCready, Boise, ID |
