I used to write my hubby sweet little notes written in Japanese: "(hubby) is an idiot", "(hubby) smells like fish", just really sweet things like that.  When my hubby asked what I wrote, I would lie and say it means, "I Love You" or "You're so handsome" and think he wouldn't know because well, he doesn't read or understand Japanese anyway. But he was studying Japanese on the side (sly guy) so the next time I wrote him a little "love note" he immediately knew it was about him and what it said.  I can't fool him now. ~ Name withheld upon request

My wife is Irish, German, French and I am Japanese.  I met my wife 29 yrs. ago. She was dating my friend at the time and after they had broken off, my friends and I did not see her around. Nine yrs. had passed, and one day while I was at Ala Moana Beach, I ran into her. She was with a girlfriend sitting on the beach sunning themselves. It was great to see her and we started "catching up" on old news. The next thing you know, we started going out on dates, just as friends, and after a few years, we got married. Since we've been married we have never spent a night apart for almost 10 years. I know that sounds impossible, not spending a night apart, but it is true! My wife and I are the best of friends and my friends can't believe that we still hold hands wherever we go. My wife tells them that the only reason that we hold hands is to look out for each other, so that we don't smash into trees. ~ Dennis M. Nakashima, Kaneohe.

My husband is 6'2" - I love the fact that I never lose him in a crowd. He on the other hand keeps saying "where did you go?" On our 1st date he said "what are you?" I said Korean. He responded with "I love kimchee." That did it we have been married for 18 years. ~ Mija
